“Shoes in the River” is a story inspired by an ages-old Chinese custom of throwing one’s shoes in the river after a heavy emotional burden has been lifted – a burden from the past, or perhaps one being carried at the present time – an obstacle to enjoyment of life and looking forward to the future.
